'Sass for Newbs' and 'The Perfect Sunset: Better Colors with Sass'

  • Substantial 900 E Pine St Seattle, WA, 98122 United States (map)

Refresh Seattle is putting on an evening of Sassy proportions! Dale Sande will be hosting the 'Sass for Newbs' portion of the evening. Then to close out the evening, Justin McDowell will be discussing 'The Perfect Sunset: Better Colors with Sass'.

Sass for Newbs

New to Sass? Not sure of all the amazing things you can do with this language that is the leading influence on the W3C to move in new directions. In this presentation, Dale Sande, author of the Sass int he Real World book series, will walk you through all the core features of Sass starting with nesting and ending up with functions and selector inheritance.

The Perfect Sunset: Better Colors with Sass

When you choose color for your design, do you take a handful of pre-selected swatches and sloppily using the eye-dropper to select sterile variations? Sass gives us tools that make this process much easier, and more intuitive. Justin McDowell will discuss how we can learn from the traditional, artistic way of mixing pigments, and apply the concept of real world lighting to amplify our palette in a rich and pleasing way. Whether you’re working on highly rendered 3D interfaces (e.g. iOS6 style) or going all-in on the new flat fad, Sass’s new color mixing functions make doing this very easy, and new media queries will make this concept all the more dynamic.
