The IxDA Seattle chapter would like to invite you to participate in a special ideation and envisioning session on June 21, 2018 for the Interaction19 conference. This salon-format workshop will help to define the Experience profile of the conference by gathering inspired design community insights, hosted and facilitated by members of the Substantial design studio.
The event will begin at 6pm at the Amazon Meeting Center (2031 7th Ave, Seattle, WA 98121) and end at 9pm at Substantial (900 E Pine St #202, Seattle, WA 98122).
The Interaction19 Experience Salon is an opportunity to collaborate with other design professionals from the Pacific Northwest to contribute a unique, local perspective on how conference attendees will experience both the urban conference footprint and the city of Seattle, at large.
The theme of the 2019 conference is ‘Design in the Wild’. Interaction design professionals exert extraordinary influence on the ways that humans interface with both the digital and built worlds. The Design sector has also been transitioning into new working configurations and business models. We are once again at a new, uncharted and wild frontier.
With its roots in engineering and innovative thinking, Seattle is emerging from recent boom years with new infrastructure, an increasingly potent business ecology and a new awareness of its presence on the global stage, and is an international hub. As home of many successes personal computing to e-commerce, from disease prevention to fair trade and environmental responsibility, from social media to new music, from fusion cuisine to international air travel, Seattle’s innovative spirit has led to an outsized contribution in making the world a more open and inclusive place. Interaction Week is global event seeking to drive transformation, and the location for beginning this transformation is Seattle.
This salon session will last approximately 3 hours and will be composed of two primary elements: the “experiment” and the “discussion”. The experiment component will be activity / collaboration-based and the discussion will be a seated, round-table event. Participants will be asked to engage the direct Seattle environment through a series of “wanders” about the urban landscape, taking note of specific locations, vistas and even citizens along the way. Upon arrival at the Substantial studio on Capitol Hill, observations from each wander will become inputs to a structured discussion, facilitated by Substantial.
This salon session will, overall, have produced an inventory and synthesis of urban-site based ideas that will hopefully challenge the conference planning team to think in new ways about how the city of Seattle may best leverage its geographies, neighborhoods, infrastructure and citizens to create a truly unique international conference footprint.
We hope that you will join us for this important design community collaboration!
