Inclusion & Diversity Director
This is a 2-year volunteer board position where you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate across the organization to bring inclusion and diversity to the forefront of everything we do.
This includes working with other IxDA Seattle board members on programming, sponsorship, marketing, and our website to ensure we’re providing diverse, quality content that’s accessible and valuable to the entirety of our Seattle interaction design community.
As Inclusion and Diversity Director you’ll be expected to:
Give guidance to ensure our programming and communications are accessible to all. Identify areas that are lacking, give recommendations to improve and work with the board and volunteers to implement new ideas and structures.
Stay on top of trends, best practices, and inclusion-related matters.
Collaborate with the board to define a set of values around inclusion and diversity and ensure our sponsors, programming, marketing, etc. are aligning with those values.
Help IxDA Seattle continue improving on the diversity of our programming including: speakers, location, and content, etc.
Work to improve our reach to members who may not have knowledge of or access to our content via current channels – how can we be where our members are, be it physical or digital?
Partner with marketing and communications team to regularly communicate internal and external diversity and inclusion initiatives, events and progress.
Partner with the volunteer director to reach out to and onboard volunteers who are representative of the different communities in which we work
Lead/partner with other board of directors to establish a scholarship program to create more inclusive programming for those who are less financially able to attend our events
Influence the diversity of the board itself by guiding us to bring in diverse leaders as new board positions are open as well as encouraging new perspectives and learnings for established board members
As a member of the board, you’ll also be expected to:
Support and contribute to the development of IxDA Seattle
Attend monthly board meetings and provide weekly update on Slack to the board
Work collaboratively with board members and volunteers
Enroll in a sub-committee working to activate IxDA Seattle's mission
Engage in sub-committee check-ins as needed
Recruit, mentor and manage the team to support chapter initiatives
Dedicate 3-5 hours per week to IxDA Seattle’s work
It’ll help if you enjoy and feel confident doing the following:
Cultivating a culture of trust, sincerity, and respect within a larger community
Being the subject matter expert about members and their needs around access to design and career growth, attending and viewing events, etc.
Working amid ambiguity with little oversight
Developing strategies
Have 4-6 years of work experience in design, technology, or social services
We're excited for someone to inject new enthusiasm and provide new direction for our Inclusion and Diversity strategy.
