ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
Speed Up! UX Design for an Impatient World
10:00 to 12:00
Presenter: Matt Dente, Fellswoop
The high-tech industry of start ups and huge tech firms moves faster today than ever before. Agile software development methods were created to keep pace with business and now UX designers have created tools for designing apps, websites, and other digital products in a lean and efficient way.
One valuable tool that can help you keep pace – the rapid ideation workshop.
Matt’s workshop methodology enables teams of stakeholders to identify tactical design solutions for websites, apps, and software products in a matter of days instead of weeks or months. During this event Matt will introduce his methodology and walk you through a series of exercises that will prepare you to conduct your own.
Behavior Change by Design
1:00 to 3:00
Presenter: Lada Gorlenko, Artefact
The Artefact behavior change workshop will show you how to design products and services that nudge people toward positive behavior change, producing outcomes that benefit end-users and their communities. For example, how can we encourage people to exercise or use public transportation more often?
In this hands-on session, we'll introduce attendees to key concepts in behavioral economics and cognitive psychology to help them understand the often surprising factors that influence human behavior and decision-making. Using a series of engaging and thought-provoking exercises, as well as Artefact’s Behavior Change Strategy Cards, we'll help participants analyze a current problem or design challenge through the lens of behavior change and lead them to generate new solutions.
Design Mashup
3:30 to 5:00
Presenters: Jenny Kam, Microsoft
We are in the age of the mashup. People are seamlessly weaving together elements from multiple distinct sources to produce fresh and unexpected results in video, music, dance, and even food. In this workshop, you will explore the meaning and impact of the mashup through hands-on, group exercises and discuss how this approach can help uncover compelling and surprising solutions.
Through the lens of bricolage, you will be challenged to disrupt established design methodologies by taking a new perspective to themes such as time, movement, and layering while anchoring core ideas in real-world scenarios.
Students, professionals and design enthusiasts are encouraged to attend. No advanced knowledge or preparation is required.
